Samsung Partners with CLEAR for Digital ID
Samsung has announced a new partnership with CLEAR (a secure identity and biometric company), integrating the “Samsung ID with CLEAR” service into Samsung Wallet. Through this feature, users traveling on domestic flights within the US can pass through TSA checkpoints using only their Samsung phone without needing to show a physical passport or ID card. Samsung states that Samsung ID with CLEAR is a digital identity system based on US passport information and verified by CLEAR. This allows identity verification at over 250 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints using the digital ID stored in Samsung Wallet. The goal of this initiative is to speed up the airport security process and provide travelers with a better experience. By eliminating the need to find or present physical documents, Samsung highlights that check-in and security verification procedures become much more convenient.

To add Samsung ID with CLEAR to Samsung Wallet:
-
Open the Samsung Wallet app
-
Go to the “Quick Access” tab
-
Select the “+” icon and navigate to “Digital IDs”
-
Choose “Samsung ID with CLEAR,” click “Get Card,” and follow the instructions

Using this service requires a CLEAR ID membership, which is available for free. However, users who want to quickly bypass airport security lines can subscribe to CLEAR+, which costs about $209 annually. Tech analysts say this partnership is an important step for strengthening the Samsung Wallet ecosystem to compete with platforms like Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. They also note that offering features such as digital IDs, mobile payments, and secure identity verification all within one platform is a new trend in the tech industry, turning smartphones into “digital passports.” Through this partnership, Samsung users are expected to experience smarter and more convenient airport travel. Although this service currently operates only in the USA, it is seen as a positive indication that similar services may be offered worldwide through Google and Apple wallet platforms in the future.
