Microsoft's Latest Magnetic USB-C Charging
Microsoft has developed a magnetic USB-C charging solution for the new Surface Laptop Ultra. After discontinuing the Surface Connect Magnetic Charging method used for their smaller Surface devices last year, they have now introduced a magnetic charging cable that connects to the USB-C port on the right side of the Surface Laptop Ultra.

At the Windows event held by Microsoft on Wednesday (Sept 7), Windows and Surface chief Panos Panay stated, "You only need to bring the connector close, and it automatically attaches itself into place." Although this remains a proprietary solution, the USB-C port it connects to functions normally for video, data, and other USB-C connections. Microsoft has named this Magnetic Connect.

Microsoft first introduced the Surface Laptop Ultra earlier this year. It comes equipped with an Nvidia RTX Spark chip, enabling gaming, creative tasks, and on-device AI management. The Surface Laptop Ultra is now available for pre-order, with shipments starting on October 16. The starting price is $2,599, featuring an 18-core CPU, 24GB RAM, and 512GB storage.
