EU Cracks Down on Big Tech
The European Union (EU) is currently taking strong action to limit the power of major Big Tech companies such as Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, and X. These measures aim to strengthen consumer protection and enforce stricter control over harmful online content. Key focus areas include data regulation, online content safety, and preventing monopoly-like behavior.

As part of this effort, the EU has begun imposing heavy fines on companies like Google, Meta, and X (formerly Twitter). One of the most notable cases is a €120 million fine imposed on Elon Musk’s X platform. According to the EU, the fine was issued due to the platform’s failure to properly control and moderate harmful content. The EU has emphasized that Big Tech companies must comply with European laws. In response, Donald Trump has argued that EU regulations place unnecessary pressure on US-based companies and harm the American technology economy. In addition, around three months ago, Google was fined €2.9 billion for engaging in monopolistic behavior within the online advertising market.
