Netflix Exits Oscars Broadcast Race

Tech News a month ago 13018 Views

Reports indicate that Netflix has decided to withdraw from the intense competition to secure the television broadcast rights for the Oscars. Although Netflix previously showed strong interest in acquiring these rights, Hollywood sources say the decision was influenced by the company’s new commercial landscape following its recent multi-billion-dollar acquisition of Warner Bros.

As a result, the main contenders for the Oscars broadcast rights beyond 2028 are now the current rights holder ABC and NBC Universal. ABC already holds the rights to broadcast the Oscars in the United States until 2028. Their current agreement is set to expire after broadcasting the 100th Academy Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place in 2028.

NBC, which previously broadcast the Golden Globe Awards, is reportedly making a strong push to take over the Oscars broadcast rights currently held by ABC. One of the key reasons is NBC’s experience in successfully broadcasting large-scale live events such as the Olympic Games. In addition, reports suggest that YouTube has also shown some interest in potentially acquiring the broadcast rights in the future. However, analysts believe it will take more time before a final decision is made on who will secure the new broadcast rights for this globally watched and highly prestigious film awards ceremony.
