Google Maps AI Food Ordering Feature
Google is reportedly developing a new AI-powered feature for its Google Maps app. This feature would allow users to order food through Google Maps even while driving, according to reports. The information was uncovered by analyzing code segments in the latest version of the Google Maps Android app.
According to the report, phrases like "Maps will order for you, even while you're on the go," "Order food," and "Try it out" were found within the app. This suggests that Google is preparing to go beyond recommending nearby restaurants and food outlets by enabling users to place food orders directly through Google Maps.

However, official details on how this feature will work have not yet been revealed. Currently, only code snippets at the development stage exist, and it remains unconfirmed whether Google will release this feature to the public. Analysts believe this feature could integrate with Gemini AI within Google Maps. If so, AI could place food orders on your behalf with your permission while you are en route, so your meal is ready when you arrive at your destination.
Previously, Google introduced the Ask Maps feature, which allowed users to ask questions in natural language to find suitable locations. This new feature is seen as the next step, where AI not only provides directions but also completes necessary tasks. Currently, some apps on new smartphones like the Google Pixel 10 and Samsung Galaxy S26, using Gemini AI, have introduced automated functions such as Ride Booking and Food Ordering. Adding such capabilities to Google Maps would represent another significant advancement in Google's AI operations.
