Google's New Fitbit Air Tracker

Tech News 2 hours ago 170 Views

The new Fitbit Air wearable device introduced by Google has already garnered significant attention in the tech world. Unlike a typical smartwatch, this device lacks a display and is marketed as a “screenless fitness tracker,” with Google aiming to provide a passive health tracking experience through a minimal design. The unique feature of Fitbit Air is that it is fully controlled via the Google Health app without any screen or physical buttons. Users can access features such as sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, vibration alarms, and fitness tracking. The Google Health app also allows customization of settings like wrist preference, vibration intensity, fitness goals, and health alerts.

This device is also considered a lower-cost alternative to premium fitness bands like Whoop. The Fitbit Air is priced at $99, and one of its major advantages is that it does not require a subscription. Google claims that the Fitbit Air offers a battery life of about 7 days. Additionally, it supports real-time heart rate data sharing with third-party fitness apps and gym equipment such as Peloton, Strava, Zwift, and iFit. In terms of health monitoring, Fitbit Air has received special attention. Advanced health alerts like high and low heart rate warnings, abnormal heart rhythm detection, and AFib notifications are included, strengthening Google's health ecosystem. Tech analysts suggest that Google is trying to dominate the lightweight wearable market with Fitbit Air alongside full smartwatch devices like the Pixel Watch. They also note that the screenless design reduces distractions, offers comfortable sleep tracking, and long battery life, making it potentially popular among minimalist users.

However, some users may find the lack of notifications, apps, and display experience to be a drawback. Nevertheless, critics believe Google's goal is to create an “always-on invisible fitness companion” rather than a traditional smartwatch.
